Symphony no. 7 "Leningrad"

Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Michiyoshi Inoue & 大阪フィルハーモニー交響楽団

Symphony No. 7 'Leningrad' is the seventh symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich, completed in 1941 and premiered in 1942. The work employs large orchestral forces and juxtaposes a broad, often martial opening subject with extended lyrical and tumultuous passages that evoke wartime conditions and the siege of Leningrad, and it occupies a central place in Shostakovich's wartime output and in mid-20th-century symphonic repertoire.
