The Damnation of Faust
Album by Hector Berlioz & Boston Symphony Orchestra & Charles Munch
The Damnation of Faust is a dramatic legend (légende dramatique) by French composer Hector Berlioz, composed and first performed in 1846. Scored for large orchestra, chorus and soloists, it blends elements of opera, symphony and oratorio with vivid orchestration and episodic, theatrical passages, and represents a hybrid work in Berlioz's output that challenged contemporary theatrical conventions.
