Symphony no. 6
Album by Gustav Mahler & Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest & Hartmut Haenchen
Symphony No. 6 is the sixth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1904. The large-scale late-Romantic orchestral score is characterised by wide dynamic contrasts, dense orchestral textures, expanded percussion including hammer-like strikes, and a tragic trajectory that marks an intensification of Mahler's exploration of fate and orchestral colour in his middle-period symphonies.
