Alexander's Feast, HWV 75
Album by George Frideric Handel & Carolyn Watkinson & Nigel Robson & Donna Brown & Ashley Stafford & Stephen Varcoe & English Baroque Soloists & Monteverdi Choir & Sir John Eliot Gardiner
Alexander's Feast, HWV 75 is an ode by Georg Friedrich Händel, composed and first performed in 1736. The work sets an English ode for soloists, chorus and orchestra, blending operatic arias, recitative and substantial choral writing to explore the dramatic effects of music, and it sits within Handel's mid-career turn towards English-texted large-scale vocal works that anticipated his later oratorios.
