Sonatas & Interludes

Sonatas and Interludes is a cycle of twenty short pieces for prepared piano by American composer John Cage, composed between 1946 and 1948. The music explores altered piano timbres created by objects placed among the strings, utilises compact, meditative structures with influences from non-Western rhythmic and aesthetic ideas, and represents a pivotal point in Cage's development of the prepared piano and his role in mid-century experimental music.
