This release pairs two ballet compositions by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, composed in 1913 and 1911. Both works are orchestral ballets from Stravinsky's early period that expanded harmonic language and rhythmic complexity through dissonance, irregular metre and vivid orchestration, and they occupy a pivotal place in his development as a composer and in early 20th-century music history.
