Symphony No. 3 (Eroica) and Symphony No. 1 are symphonic works by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed in 1803–04 and 1799–1800 respectively. The third marks a decisive expansion of symphonic scale and expressive range through longer movements, greater dynamic contrast and increased brass and developmental complexity, while the first displays classical balance and clear sonata structures that reveal Beethoven's early assimilation of Classical models and foreshadow his later innovations in the symphonic repertoire.
