Ballades, Op. 10 and Rhapsodies, Op. 79 are two sets of solo piano pieces by Johannes Brahms, published in 1854 and 1879 respectively. They exemplify Romantic piano writing with rich harmonic language, rhythmic drive and a blend of lyrical introspection and dramatic gestures, the earlier Op. 10 reflecting youthful intensity and narrative experimentation while the later Op. 79 shows a more compact, autumnal maturity in form and texture.
