Symphony no. 7 "Leningrad"

Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi & Oleg Caetani

Symphony No. 7 "Leningrad" is the seventh symphony by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1941 and premiered in 1942. The orchestral work, cast in four movements, juxtaposes expansive lyrical passages with martial, march-like material and was composed as a wartime response to the Nazi invasion, situating it as a large-scale statement within Shostakovich's wartime output and twentieth-century Soviet music.
First released: October 2003
