La bohème is an opera in four acts by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, premiered in 1896. The score exemplifies late-Romantic Italian lyricism, characterised by sweeping melodies, rich orchestration and vivid vocal writing, and it marked Puccini's consolidation within the verismo tradition and his lasting influence on Italian opera repertoire.
