Symphony no. 4, op. 43
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi & Oleg Caetani
Symphony No. 4, Op. 43 is the fourth symphony by Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, completed in 1936. The work is a large-scale orchestral symphony that employs modernist harmony, jagged rhythms and dense, often dissonant textures alongside lyrical passages; it was withdrawn in 1936 amid political pressure and remained unperformed until 1961, placing it between his early experimental period and his later, more publicly conservative symphonic output.
