Acis and Galatea
Album by George Frideric Handel & English Baroque Soloists & Sir John Eliot Gardiner & Norma Burrowes & Anthony Rolfe Johnson & Martyn Hill & Willard White
Acis and Galatea is a pastoral masque by George Frideric Handel, first performed in 1718. The music blends English-texted choruses, solo arias and accompanied recitative with bright string writing and pastoral harmonies, and it comes from Handel's early London period when he composed both Italian opera and music for the English stage.
