Symphony No. 10
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Milan Horvat & ORF Radio‐Symphonieorchester Wien
Symphony No. 10 is the tenth symphony by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, completed and premiered in 1953. The work is a large-scale orchestral symphony that juxtaposes sombre, brooding passages with agitated, rhythmically incisive episodes—featuring stark brass, driving strings and abrupt contrasts—and marks the composer's first major symphonic statement after the death of Stalin, reflecting the fraught political atmosphere of the period.
