Piano Concertos Nos. 2, 4

Album by Ludwig van Beethoven & Elisabeth Westenholz & Copenhagen Collegium Musicum & Michael Schønwandt

Piano Concertos Nos. 2 and 4 are piano concertos by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed respectively in the late 1780s (No. 2) and in 1805–1806 (No. 4). No. 2 exemplifies Beethoven's early Classical style with clear sonata-allegro structures and echoes of the Viennese tradition, while No. 4 presents a more introspective, formally expansive dialogue between soloist and orchestra that points towards his middle-period innovations in concerto writing.
