Symphonies 1–4 is a cycle of four symphonies by Robert Schumann, composed between 1841 and 1851. They are in the Romantic orchestral tradition, with lyrical themes, increased chromaticism, varied orchestral colours and formal plans that vary, and they show Schumann's progression from early youthful openness to a more concentrated, revised approach later in his career.
