Symphony No. 7 'Leningrad'

Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Karel Ančerl & Česká filharmonie

Symphony No. 7 'Leningrad' is the seventh symphony by Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1941 and premiered in 1942. The work is characterised by expansive orchestration, stark contrasts between lyrical and martial material and a prominent march-like motif, and it sits within Shostakovich's wartime output as a significant musical response to the events of the Second World War.
