Die 6 Streichquartette
Album by Béla Bartók & Emerson String Quartet
Die 6 Streichquartette is a cycle of six string quartets by Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, composed between 1908 and 1939. The works chart Bartók's development from late-Romantic and folk-influenced writing to a compressed modernist language characterised by modal and chromatic harmony, irregular metres, percussive and extended string techniques and dense contrapuntal textures, and they mark a major contribution to twentieth-century chamber music.
