Fidelio is an opera by Ludwig van Beethoven, first performed in 1805 (revised in 1814). Musically it combines Classical orchestral textures with operatic vocal writing and dramatic ensembles, reflecting Beethoven's shift toward more expansive, emotionally driven structures and marking his only completed opera during the transition from the Classical to the Romantic era.
