Hail! Bright Cecilia
Album by Henry Purcell & Monteverdi Choir & English Baroque Soloists & Sir John Eliot Gardiner
Hail! Bright Cecilia is an ode by English Baroque composer Henry Purcell, composed in 1692. The work is scored for soloists, choir and Baroque orchestra and combines ornate vocal writing, contrapuntal textures and colourful orchestration characteristic of late 17th-century English Baroque, representing one of Purcell's later ceremonial odes and illustrating the St Cecilia ode tradition within his career.
