Harold en Italie, op. 16
Album by Hector Berlioz & hr‐Sinfonieorchester & Eliahu Inbal & Yuri Abramovich Bashmet
Harold en Italie, Op. 16 is a symphony with a prominent solo viola part by French composer Hector Berlioz, composed and premiered in 1834. The work blends Romantic orchestral writing with programme-music elements, using the solo viola more as an evocative character within richly coloured orchestration than as a conventional virtuoso feature, and it represents Berlioz's continuing exploration of programme forms and novel orchestral effects in his early-middle career.
