Symphony No. 1 is the first symphony by German composer Johannes Brahms, completed in 1876. The work is a large-scale Romantic orchestral symphony characterised by dense harmonies, expansive thematic development and a synthesis of classical structural forms with late-Romantic orchestral colour, and it represents Brahms's first full-scale orchestral statement after many years of compositional preparation.
