The Stone Guest
Album by Alexander Dargomyzhsky & Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra Soloists Ensemble & Andrei Chistyakov
The Stone Guest is an opera by Russian composer Alexander Dargomyzhsky, completed in 1869 and first performed posthumously in 1872. The work is through-composed with a declamatory, speech-influenced vocal style and evocative orchestral colour, occupying a late-career place in Dargomyzhsky's output that helped foreground a more naturalistic approach in Russian opera.
