Symphony no. 9 “The Great”

Album by Franz Schubert & Columbia Symphony Orchestra & Bruno Walter

Symphony No. 9 in C major, D. 944, known as 'The Great', is a symphony by Franz Schubert composed in 1825–1826. The work is expansive Romantic-era orchestral writing characterised by broad, lyrical melodies, rich harmonic progressions and large-scale formal structures, and it occupies a significant place in Schubert's career as a late, large-scale symphonic statement that helped bridge Classical models and the emerging Romantic symphonic tradition.
First released: 1985
