Album by Henry Purcell & Anne Sofie von Otter & Stephen Varcoe & Lynne Dawson & Nigel Rogers & The English Concert & The English Concert Choir & Trevor Pinnock

Dido and Aeneas is a chamber opera by the English composer Henry Purcell, first performed around 1689. The work is a compact Baroque opera that blends English recitative and aria with choral and dance passages and uses repeating ground bass and expressive harmonic writing, and it is an early surviving example of English-language opera that sits within Purcell's stage output.
