Symphony no. 14

Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Sarah Traubel & Roman Lyulkin & Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie & Vahan Mardirossian

Symphony No. 14 is the fourteenth symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1969. Scored for a reduced chamber ensemble with two vocal soloists, it functions as a condensed, sombre song cycle that employs spare, often bleak textures, stark contrasts and an economy of material to probe themes of mortality, marking a late-period shift toward austerity and concentrated expression in the composer's output.
