Catalogue d'oiseaux

Album by Olivier Messiaen & Håkon Austbø

Catalogue d'oiseaux is a cycle of solo piano pieces by French composer Olivier Messiaen, composed between 1956 and 1958. The work pairs detailed transcriptions of birdsong with Messiaen's mature harmonic language, modal scales and intricate rhythmic patterns to create extended musical portraits of landscapes and avifauna, and it is part of his mid‑career exploration of colour, rhythm and ornithology in music.
