Symphony No. 4 and the song cycle Songs of a Wayfarer are compositions by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed in 1900 and 1885 respectively. The works juxtapose late-Romantic orchestration and folk-influenced, introspective vocal writing, marking a stage in Mahler's career where intimate song material and expansive symphonic thinking increasingly inform one another and where his use of orchestral colour and vocal-instrumental integration becomes more prominent.
