Symphony no. 5
Album by Gustav Mahler & Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest & Bernard Haitink
Symphony No. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902 and premiered in 1904. The five-movement orchestral work traverses sombre, lyrical and exuberant textures, employing a large late-Romantic orchestra and a dramatic arc that marked a shift in Mahler's output from vocal-influenced symphonies toward a more purely instrumental, formally cohesive approach in his middle period.
