Symphony No. 9 is the ninth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1909 and first performed in 1912. The work is a late-Romantic orchestral symphony characterised by expansive orchestration, complex chromatic harmony and contrasting passages of turbulence and introspective lyricism, and it is Mahler's final completed symphony, marking the culmination of his late style and preoccupations with mortality.
