Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano is a cycle of twenty pieces for prepared piano by American composer John Cage, composed between 1946 and 1948. The work uses prepared piano techniques that alter the instrument's timbre by inserting objects between the strings; this produces percussive and unconventional tones within an experimental classical idiom, and it came after Cage's percussion experiments and led him to further explore indeterminacy and extended techniques in his later career.
