Symphony no. 2 / Violin Concerto
Album by Jean Sibelius & Vladimir Spivakov & Заслуженный коллектив России Академический симфонический оркестр Санкт-Петербургской филармонии & Yuri Temirkanov
Symphony No. 2 and the Violin Concerto are orchestral compositions by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, composed in 1902 and 1904 respectively. The symphony uses broad lyrical themes, late-Romantic orchestration and a forward-moving tonal language associated with Sibelius's mature work, while the violin concerto pairs virtuosic solo writing with sweeping orchestral accompaniment and shows his move toward more concentrated, economical forms.
