Socrate

Album by Erik Satie & Barbara Hannigan & Reinbert de Leeuw

Socrate is a symphonic drama for voice and orchestra by French composer Erik Satie, composed in 1918. The work sets passages from Plato in understated, chant-like vocal lines over spare instrumental textures in a neoclassical, objective manner, marking a shift in Satie's output toward pared-back forms often presented with either chamber orchestra or piano reduction.
