Don Quixote / Don Juan
Album by Richard Strauss & Chicago Symphony Orchestra & Fritz Reiner
Don Quixote and Don Juan are orchestral tone poems by German composer Richard Strauss, composed in 1897 and 1888 respectively. Both works exemplify late-Romantic programme music with vivid, narrative-led orchestration, virtuosic solo writing within the orchestra and expanded harmonic and orchestral colour, and they mark important stages in Strauss’s development as a composer of symphonic poems.
