Bluebeard's Castle
Album by Béla Bartók & Orchestra of Opera North & Richard Farnes & Sally Burgess & John Tomlinson
Bluebeard's Castle is a one-act opera by Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, composed in 1911 and first performed in 1918. The work employs a concentrated orchestral palette and a symbolist, psychologically charged libretto to fuse late-Romantic harmony, folk-inspired motifs and early modernist harmonic language, marking Bartók's first completed opera and influencing his subsequent compositional trajectory in 20th-century Hungarian art music.
