Piano Sonatas Op. 22 and Op. 31 No. 3 are solo piano sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven, published in the early 1800s (commonly dated to around 1801 and 1803 respectively). They are rooted in the Classical piano sonata tradition but show increased formal breadth, stronger dynamic contrast and more developed thematic working than his earliest sonatas, and they mark Beethoven's movement toward the more assertive style of his middle period.
