Symphonies 2 & 5
Album by Jean Sibelius & Royal Scottish National Orchestra & Sir Alexander Gibson
Symphonies Nos. 2 and 5 are orchestral compositions by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, completed in 1902 and 1915 respectively, with the Fifth revised in 1919. The works exemplify Sibelius's Nordic Romantic language, the Second consolidating his early, expansive symphonic voice and the Fifth showing a later move toward concentrated thematic development and distinctive orchestral textures that resonated in twentieth-century symphonic practice.
