Miserere
Album by Gregorio Allegri & Tenebrae & Nigel Short
Miserere is a choral motet by Italian composer Gregorio Allegri, composed circa 1638. The piece sets the penitential psalm in a style characterised by refined polyphony and ornamented soprano lines above chant-derived harmonies, and its association with the papal liturgy places it as a notable example of 17th-century Roman sacred music.
