String Quartet no. 12, op. 96, "The American" / String Quartet no. 13, op. 106
Album by Antonín Dvořák & Lindsay String Quartet
This release is a recording of two string quartets by Antonín Dvořák, composed in 1893 and 1895. Both works showcase Dvořák's late-Romantic chamber style, combining folk-influenced melodies, lyrical string writing and rich harmonic textures; the 1893 quartet reflects his North American period with open, pentatonic-inflected themes, while the 1895 quartet continues his expansion of quartet form through larger-scale structures and motivic development.
First released: 1992
