The Planets
Album by Gustav Holst & Philharmonia Orchestra & Evgeny Fyodorovich Svetlanov
The Planets is an orchestral suite by English composer Gustav Holst, composed between 1914 and 1916 and first performed in 1918. The seven-movement work employs varied orchestral colours, pronounced rhythmic motifs and expansive harmonic textures rooted in early 20th-century classical and impressionistic idioms, and it marked Holst's emergence as a composer of large-scale orchestral music with a significant place in British orchestral repertoire.
