Symphonien Nr. 5 & 6 "Pastorale" are the Fifth and Sixth symphonies by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed and first performed in 1808. Musically they illustrate Beethoven's move into his middle period, contrasting the Fifth's driving, motif-based drama with the Sixth's programme-oriented, nature-evoking pastoral character, and together they occupy a central place in his orchestral output and in early Romantic music.
