Water Music
Album by George Frideric Handel & Scottish Chamber Orchestra & Sir Alexander Gibson
The Water Music is a collection of orchestral suites by George Frideric Handel, composed and first performed in 1717. Stylistically a work of the Baroque period, it comprises dance-based movements scored for winds and strings intended for outdoor performance on the River Thames for royal entertainment, and it exemplifies Handel's ceremonial orchestral writing within the early 18th-century British court context.
