The Barber of Seville

Album by Gioachino Rossini & English National Opera Orchestra & English National Opera Chorus & Gabriele Bellini & Bruce Ford & Della Jones & Alan Opie

The Barber of Seville is a two-act opera buffa by Italian composer Gioachino Rossini, first performed in 1816. Musically it is characterised by brisk orchestration, virtuosic vocal writing including patter passages and a strong emphasis on melodic invention, and it helped establish Rossini's standing in early 19th-century Italian comic opera.
