Symphonies 1 & 7
Album by Jean Sibelius & San Francisco Symphony & Herbert Blomstedt
Symphonies Nos. 1 and 7 are orchestral works by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, composed in 1899 and 1924 respectively. Musically they contrast the First's late-Romantic, nationalistic textures and expansive orchestration with the Seventh's single-movement, economy of material and compressed, modernised symphonic language that reflects a late-career stylistic shift in Sibelius's output.
