Leonore is the original 1805 version of Ludwig van Beethoven's only opera, premiered in Vienna. Musically it applies Beethoven's symphonic approach to vocal drama, combining classical-era operatic forms with extended orchestral passages and adventurous harmonic language that anticipated aspects of early Romantic opera and marked a significant development in his compositional trajectory.
