Symphony no. 6

Album by Gustav Mahler & Tonhalle‐Orchester Zürich & David Zinman

Symphony No. 6 is the sixth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1904 and premiered in 1906. The late-Romantic symphony is characterised by large-scale structure, dense orchestration and stark contrasts between lyrical passages and turbulent, rhythmically driven sections, and it occupies a central place in Mahler's middle-period output with effects that helped shape symphonic practice in the twentieth century.
