Symphonie No. 5

Album by Gustav Mahler & Wiener Philharmoniker & Pierre Boulez

Symphonie No. 5 is the fifth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, composed between 1901 and 1902. Scored for a large orchestra and cast in five movements, it is Mahler's first purely instrumental symphony and represents a personal and stylistic transition in his output, juxtaposing sombre brass chorales with intimate chamber-like passages and expansive orchestral climaxes.
First released: January 1997
