24 Preludes and Fugues, Op. 87 is a cycle of 24 piano pieces by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1950–51. Combining Baroque forms with 20th-century harmonies and textures, the cycle ranges from compact, aphoristic preludes to dense fugues and represents Shostakovich's engagement with traditional contrapuntal technique during his post-war period.
