Streichquintett (String Quintet)
Album by Franz Schubert & Melos Quartett & Mstislav Rostropovich
String Quintet in C major, D.956 is a string quintet by Austrian composer Franz Schubert, composed in 1828. Musically, it blends Classical chamber structures with expansive, lyrical melodies, rich harmonic textures and a prominent low-register role provided by an extra cello, and as one of Schubert's final chamber works it occupies a pivotal place in the transition toward Romantic chamber writing.
