Impromptus op. 142 / Sonata op. 78

Album by Franz Schubert & Andreas Staier

Impromptus Op. 142 and Sonata Op. 78 are piano works by Franz Schubert, composed in 1827 and 1826 respectively. Both exemplify Schubert's late-classical to early-Romantic piano idiom, with the Impromptus consisting of shorter, lyrical pieces that emphasise melodic invention and harmonic colour, while the Sonata presents a broader, more developmental structure with extended thematic work and rich pianistic textures reflecting his mature instrumental style.
