Symphonie N° 13 "Babi Yar"
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Nicola Ghiuselev & Washington National Cathedral Choral Society & National Symphony Orchestra & Mstislav Rostropovich
Symphony No. 13 "Babi Yar" is the thirteenth symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1962. Scored for bass soloist, male chorus and orchestra, it uses sombre, often declamatory choral writing alongside dark brass, low-string sonorities and incisive percussion to set its texts and represents a pointed instance of Shostakovich engaging directly with public and political subject matter in his later career.
